Conventioneering

Blogging today from the Tulsa Convention Center. I feel like I have a hangover from last nights wild party, but I spent the whole night drinking club soda with lime. So why does my head hurt? And where are all these people getting their steaming cups of coffee? Must.Have.Coffee.

This morning the convention attendees are in classes or something because the exhibit hall is short on customers and long on restless vendors wandering around checking out competitors' booths. I'm glad I only do this once a year. I could not earn my living by chatting up folks all day long from behind a draped table in my draped cubicle standing on cold concrete floors.

Someone just came and asked me for a tampon. Seriously, I'm flattered that I don't scream "post-menopausal" just by looking at me, but thanks to a surgeon's skill, I haven't had that equipment for about five years. But hey, thanks for asking.

Oops, here comes the onslaught. Gotta put on my game face. But first, must find caffeine.

It is nice to know what you're up to and feel a part of your life, but really, do you need to share everything? Glad you are doing well, keep up the good work!

By the way, my verification word is "tramp". As in a shabby looking man without a home who likes to hitch rides on trains, or a woman of loose morals. Couldn't pass that one up. And have you ever wondered why there is a handicapped symbol next to the word verification?

The handicapped symbol gives you an audio version of the word scramble. The whole thing's a bit annoying really. Apparently, humans are supposed to be able to read these weird and wavy pseudo-words that confound machines, but it often takes me three or four tries to guess the word and sometimes I just give up. Either the theory doesn't really work, or... I'm not human. Hmmm... The audio version is totally inscrutable. I hear about a dozen voices speaking word fragments in varying pitches and accents. Not sure what else I'm supposed to hear. The signal to noise ratio in my head is often not very high and this is an interesting, if irritating manifestation of that. OK, this comment on a comment has turned into its own blog. Hopefully someone can read the word below so I can push the Publish button...

I KNOW! I often can't read the word verification and have to try three or four times. But leave it to you, Stephen, to have tried the handicap option. I never tried it because I'm hearing impaired and didn't want to be depressed that I couldn't hear it!

It's amazing the thing we come to appreciate.
